What are Architectural Shadow Bead Trims

A architectural shadow bead trim is a metal alloy accessory that allows you to create a reveal natural or assitance of light effect on the edge of drywall where it butts up against other elements of a space, like base boards, ceilings, door frames, windows & stairwells.
Its feather edge flanges form an almost zig-zagged shape that gives the bead one of its more traditional names Z Trim, these days they are more commonly referred to as reveal trims or shadow gap trims.
While there are practically endless uses for wall trims, the most common applications you’ll find is around door frames, above flush MDF baseboards / skirtings / kickboards & a growing trend on stariways prior wet trades.
Originally designed for the commerical market, but now being used in private projects regular.

What lengths are the trims supplied in?
99% of the time they are supplied in 3000mm lengths, however certains projects with notice they can be cut to size to project requirement.
What Colour are the trims supplied in?
The standard colour is WHITE RAL9010 with options of any standard RAL colour available with a paintset up charge and a state of the art painting faciility.
How do i cut Trims
To cut for an intersection at an inside corner mitre, position the bead vertically with the feather edge leg facing up, and to cut for a horizontal to vertical joint, lay the bead horizontally against the mitre saw's base plate, pack and clamp with timber if needed.
When using a chop saw, a fine tooth blade is recommended for cutting the aluminium to stop burrs.
Can I paint Trims
Standard WHITE trims will not require painting as this is part of the powder coating process on finished goods, but Yes! These bead’s flanges are paintable, refer to paint supplier!
We find it easier to paint the bead your desired colour before installing it, but you can do it while painting the rest of your wall if you’d like.
NB: hand painted trims has no warranty provision.
Can i use trims at the base of my wall
You can do it either way! If the ground is uneven we’d recommend installing the flooring first before anything else to avoid an inconsistent light reveal effects and making good to a miniumum.
Can i use trims on double skin walls
Yes, in the commercial market they often use in timber stud or SFS ( steel frame systems ) many projects use the profiles on single or double skin drylining, positioning for the trim and board need to be considered in all installations preperations prior tape and join or wet trades.
Can you recycle the trims
Yes, this is why aluminium trims are becoming more popular due to the fact that if the wall is moved removed or refit at a later stage this material can be recycled, doing out bit for the environment !!!.
